Fourth Shoot: London Zoo

The animals at London Zoo all looked as if they were extremely unhappy and bored of their surroundings. Considering the bad weather and school hours, there was a contuinous stream of people at every enclosure. Their enclosures were simple and they had limited space to roam as they would in the wild.

Third Shoot: Plantasia

In amidst the weird and wonderful plants inside Plantasia, there is also a small selection of animals for visitors. The cages they are in are small, though measures to recreate their tropical environment have been attempted, and you can see how being in captivity has affected them, especially in the monkeys.

Second Shoot: Trentham Monkey Forest

I was surprised to see how much land these monkeys had to roam around, but again the horrible weather brought out a sadness in them and because of continuous human interaction, they were unnatually calm and tame.

First Shoot: West Midlands Safari Park

Although these animals have space to move around in, it's still not big enough to immitate the terrain they would roam in the wild. The bad weather also shows how inconsiderate these parks can be as the animals all want to shelter inside but are stuck outside in the rain and cold.

Intorduction to 'Caged' - FMP

For my self-assigned Final Major Project entitled 'Caged', I chose to look at animals in captivity and the negative associations. Using the medium of photography, I have tried to capture these caged animals in a way that gives them 'human-like' emotion which the viewer can empathise with.

Nineth Shoot: Bristol Zoo

To finish my project, I had the opportunity to visit Bristol Zoo. I know some people are frightened of insects and certain animals, so I tried to use this to my advantage. While I was there, many of the water tanks were empty, but the underwater windows made me feel really uneasy about the water.

Eighth Shoot: Swansea City Centre

After looking at Alexey Titarkeno's work a lot more, I decided I wanted to try to caputre the movement of crowds of people like he did. Around the same location there are some unnerving places, the kind of places you avoid going to.

Seventh Shoot: The Boat

As some people are frightened of water and boats, I thought I would try to capture this element of fear on our family boat in Swansea Marina. The interior of the boat has a coating of mold as it hasn't been used in around three years. This 'abandoned' state helped to increase the atmosphere of the images.

Sixth Shoot: Uplands Mansion

A few streets away from the college campus, there is an abandoned mansion house. The derelict state of it is nerve racking, almost as if you're expecting to see a shadow through the broken windows. The boarded up windows and baracades around the entrances also make you feel uneasy about the place.

Fifth Shoot: The Pine Forest

Along the North Gower Road, there is a pine forest that used to be a military firing range. There are warning signs on the marsh and throughout the sand dunes that warn you of unexploded mines. I find this very unsetteling. As well as that, there are one or two small cabbins in the middle of the woodland area for conservationists to stay, though, personally, staying in the middle of the woods is scary.

Fourth Shoot: Swansea Grand Theatre

I have always visited the theatre since I was little, yet every time I go I can't help but feel slightly unnerved by the interiors. There are rumours of a ghost that hunts the theare hall and the atmosphere is quite strange.

Third Shoot: College Again

I decided to look around college again. The photographs from the previous college shoot needed a little something more to make the atmosphere a little more 'spooky'. I used the same locations around the campus, but included moving figures and used a low shutter speed creating more interesting images.

Second Shoot: Ilston Valley

In the summer this woodland, situated on the Gower, is a beautiful place and great for family outings. However, during the winter months, it holds a completely diferent atmosphere. The tall, bare trees, wet ground and dark skies could be the perfect setting for a horror film.

First Shoot: College

For my first photoshoot, I chose to look at the college campus. The building is a mix of old and new, and as it used to be an all girls school and rumours of it being a small hospital previous to that, I find some aspects of the campus rather strange and a little daunting.

Introduction to Reverse Spaces

This blog is dedicated to my foundation art project entitled 'Reverse Spaces'.
I chose the medium of photography to explore and have experimented with a range of ideas and concepts to illustrate this.

To start this project I researched into other artists that had explored similar concepts and interesting techniques. The biggest influences throughout my project were Photographer Alexey Titarenko and Francesca Woodman.
